When is it okay to cut back daffodils. Also, should the bulbs be dug up and replanted???

do not cut the foilage back until all the green is brown...right now the bulbs are gathering and storing energy for next year through the green foilage....if you cut/trim them back while still green you may not get as many flowers next year as you had this year...you dont have to dig the bulbs up but every 2-4 yrs...just depends on how thick they are...if they have been in the ground for a few years go ahead and move them now or mark that area so you can find them this fall

i move mine different time of the growing season but never cut off foilage until it is all brown...might take about 2 mos or so

if the plant gets in your way while mowing/weedeating you can take rubberbands/string and bundle the tops together to keep them out of your way until they turn brown

i hope this helps

Cut back the daffodils when the leaves start to turn brown and just leave the bulbs in the ground for next spring.
Reply:After the bloom ends, pull off the seed pod so the energy of the plant will be put in strengthening the bulb for next year's bloom. Never cut the foliage until it begins to yellow, usually late May or June.

Daffodils multiply in two ways: asexual cloning (bulb division) where exact copies of the flower will result, and sexually (from seed) where new, different flowers will result. Removing the seed pod at the end of bloom prevents this type of multiplication.

As daffodils multiply, they can become crowded. When this occurs, thin your plantings by removing a few of the bulbs. These can be moved to a new location. Do not thin until all greenery has died back.
Reply:leave the foliage on a few weeks so energy goes back into the bulb. Prune by July 1. Dig bulbs in August, dry and replant in September. Dig and replant every three years.
