Is okay to mulch over plants? See details for more info...?

I'd like to mulch a flower bed that has daffodils and other plants in it that have already died off at the top of the ground. Will mulching the bed now affect them adversely next spring? Thanks...

boy did you luck out tonight. the garden dok is at your service and my middle name is MULCH! naturally there are different kinds of mulches, made of different stuff %26amp; alot has to do with just how deep you mulch the area you are covering. i have a client who has his entire property is buried under about 3 feet of tree chippings. think how nice his soil will be when that breaks down in about 100 years. Still another client choose to use river rock as a form of murch in his yard. keeps moisture in the soil, keeps the weeds down and looks pretty good. just what a good mulch should do. Any time you use an organtic materal as a bed cover or mulch, you can do no wrong... unless you do to the exreeam and come next spring your daffodils are never seen again because of the 30 inches of mulch you piled on top. Yes my dear, the dok saz mulch away! your soil will thank you for it
Reply:No, the bulbs and plants will grow thru when they're ready.
Reply:Mulch everything, trees, flower, animals and small children. Just make sure you plant a pickled peach tree for Chicken Boy's sake.
Reply:no its good- you use natural processes to fertilize and recycle nutrients
Reply:it shouldn't, but i would keep the mulch to a depth of 2". mine always come up with a layer of cypress mulch over them.
Reply:That's fine.
Reply:Mulching denies weeds sunlight to grow. It will do the same to the dead plants. If you have perennials, never mulch over them, mulch around them!
Reply:No Absolutely not. They will be fine. My best friend Owns a greenhouse and this Is a common practise for him. Just make sure that If you have animals ...Not To Buy The Mulch That Has Cocoa In It ! It will Kill your animals. Thier body can't metabolize they cocoa. But Yes I mulch over mine every year, and they're fine.
Reply:Mulching over bulbs is ok. Giving them a dose of bulb bone meal helps too. That helps them have enough 'food' for the next year. Give them some more bulb booster in the fall. If this is a perinnel that you're mulching over, it'll probably have a hard time coming back up through it.
Reply:It is best to mulch your plants rather than using those chemical sprays. No, it shouldn't affect the growth because you're only denying the plants of sunlight. The plants may be starting to grow out by next spring.
