Daffodils ? should I leave them for a year ?

I planted out 5000 daffs and have picked them every year for 5 years now, should I leave them for a year ? would it make them stronger or bigger - or no difference at all ???

Daffodils ? should I leave them for a year ?
Daffodils and Narcissus can have the blooms removed without any adverse effects.Florists and market gardeners do this regularly, only if the bulbs produce blind shoots as a result of overcrowding should the plants be split into individual bulbs and spread out.

Left to their own devices, the bulbs will seed and increase.
Reply:Can you deliver me a couple of hundred on St Davids Day? Report It
Reply:I pick some of mine, but I dont do anythig special to the remainder. They have multiplied over the years.
Reply:I don't think it'd make any difference cos just keep on coming.

I love daffs.

What do you do with 500 every year?
Reply:It will make no difference at all, in fact it may make the bulbs stronger because they don't have to produce seed from fertilised flowers.

If the clumps of bulbs are getting crowded you could lift and separate a few clumps and replant to get even more daffs from the daughter bulbs that each bulb produces in time.

They must look marvellous, wish I could see them!
Reply:You don't need to "rest " them for a year but make sure they are not overcrowded and feed them with suitable fertiliser. Make sure you remove all flowers so that they do not set seed but leave the leaves to die naturally and put the goodness back into the bulb.
Reply:Yes i would leave them in the ground and dont let them set seed and i would work in some bone meal if possible hope this helps.
