andsome other spring flowers!
does this mean we will get a crappy summer again??!!
Daffodils are up????
The harbingers of spring, a taste of all our hopes being dashed by awful weather and the mistakes we make, with the best of wills of course. Still we learn from them don't we?? Spring is the time of dreams, dreams of long summer days, emerald striped lawns, exotic brilliant colors of our well planned gardens?, the scents of our perfect blooms creating an unforgettable nosegay. Sadly our dreams rarely become reality, but if just one of our reveries becomes true, it is worth it.
The mention of spring always reminds me of the poem 'Rendezvous' by US WW1 poet Alan Seager, here are a few lines:-
'When spring trips north again this year,
And I to my pledged word am true,
I shall not fail that rendezvous.'
It makes your flesh creep, Seager was killed in the spring offensive in1918
Reply:UK?
Yep,mine too, and my rhubarb, but it just means we are having a mild winter.
It doesn't necessarily mean we'll have a rubbish summer, just a mild winter. But there are forecasts of colder blasts and even snow for the next coulpe of days. Enjoy the mild weather and sunshine while it's here
Reply:daffodils and other spring bulbs and flowers come up a little bit this time of year the leaves kind of sit there until the weather decides it wants to stay warmer and then they really start growing I have little green stuff here and there in my garden some of it creeping up through the snow but this is normal for these plants.(Montana)

Reply:We often have daffodils blooming in February in our zone 6b garden, it is not unusual to see them in sheltered sunny spots. Mine are up tho not in bloom yet. The freezing weather will not hurt them, daffodils and other bulbs have a unique ability to "heat up" internally when the weather turns nasty, to help them survive. That is why when we have a hard freeze and they flop on the ground, you will see them standing up perky a few hours later.
Early crocus are blooming however, I saw some this morning. They always bloom in late January whenever the sun shines.
Reply:not here they ain't. I have seen them bloom in the snow already
Reply:only mother nature knows. the weatherman can`t even guess next week.
Reply:no it should rain as usual
Reply:Probably, they look good though. Oh...........here comes a heavy frost.
