Daffodils in bud already?

I'm an experienced gardener of some 20yrs,but this is puzzling me. The daffodil bulbs I planted last autumn, both standard and miniature, are already up and in bud, ready to flower by the end of the month, a full month early.

Now, the autumn before, 2006, I planted some in a different part of the garden, and they did this last January, but this year are only just showing tips.

Is it because in their first season they always come up early, as they are a bit confused and next year these newly planted ones will revert to a later time? Or just because it's so mild they are flowering earlier?

I'm just curious to know

Daffodils in bud already?
It's possible that your forward daffs had been in a comparatively warm environment (in the nursery, shop or shed) prior to planting, thus accounting for their early start. I would expect them to flower at the same time as your other ones next year, unless they are in a 'warmer' part of the garden.

I'm in West Wales and I saw daffodils flowering (outside) before Christmas. I have hyacinths and wallflowers already flowering in my garden and there's a flower bud on my Marjorie rose too!
Reply:I am jealous:-)

Where do you live? Here in snowy Ohio,USA,they won't bud until late March.
Reply:It's because of our mild weather..! im in south wales, %26amp; mine are at different stages even tho i planted them at the same time...! they have obviously woken up at different times!!! its a shame really as come march we probably wont have any spring bulbs left unless you plant more now!!!!!
Reply:We actually have daffodils planted in the garden flowering at present.
Reply:the weather is mild,,, i have seen 1000`s of bulbs sprouting already all over the Sussex countryside its nice to see,,,,,,

as for the bulbs coming up that you planted last autumn,,, don't worry same thing happened to me many many times.....

just enjoy
Reply:here too. no snow this year yet. ours dont bloom till late march, but are already blooming
Reply:It's because of the mild weather. I saw some today in full bud. They'll be out in a week or so.
Reply:Yet another example of global warming.

I live in the South of England and I have daffs out, also seen a lot of lady birds and an azalea %26amp; camellia in flower already.
Reply:The weather around the world is very strange this year. Here in the USA it is snowing and icy in places that are normally warm. The entire southern states are getting snow which is very unusually for that part of the USA. My family lives in a semi-desert and it is so cold this week that we cannot go outside! Most of us in this area do not even buy coats, just sweaters and light jackets.
