Clip them with your garden shears, so that the stems are long enough for whatever vase or container you want to use.

Reply:Take a container of water to the garden with you. As soon as you snip, stick them in the water so that the stems don't seal. You can transfer them to a nicer vase in the house (again filled with water first).
