it is may in the northwest. a friend sent me some tulip and daffodil bulbs. i need to store them until planting time. how do i do thjat?
Storage of bulbs?
put them in the refrigerator bottom drawer.they will stay fresh until time to plant.
Reply:Cool is the secret, damp is the enemy. Any place away from sun/heat will do, a box in the shed, a covering of dry sand can help to deter rot and pests.
Reply:Just be careful to store them somewhere cool and dry. The bottom refrigerator drawer may cause them to rot... if your onions get yukky in that drawer, put them in a less damp place. The bag must be ventilated and the bulbs stored in a single layer.
You want to prevent two things; one, the bulbs shrivelling from heat, dryness and sprouting, and two; the bulbs rotting from too much moisture.
