i understand how other flowering plants and trees make new flowers and trees but how does it work with bilbs like daffodils and crocusses
How do bulbs replicate/reproduce?
bulbs will create a small shout at the side of the bulb.
this then grow into a full bulb.
if you have ever cut a onion and seen that it had two centers this is part of the process.
bulb plants should be dug up every few years and the bulbs separated - so that each bulb has enough space and food.
Some bulbs flowers can also grow seeds but this is much more unusual
Reply:They grow small bulbs around the base of the bulb, if you leave the foliage on to die down naturally, the small bulbs will eventually produce flowers.
Reply:Through the pollen in them. I would like to know how they get seedless grapes as there are no seeds to grow them from.
Reply:BEES
Reply:The quickest way is for new bulbs grow at the base of the main bulb ( a little bit like garlic). This is why we dead head flowers like daffodils but let the leaves remain to store up energy and nutrients in the bulb, both for next year's growth and producing new bulbs.
Reply:Wikipedia may have explained it best:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetative_...
Vegetative reproduction or progagation or multiplication ... a process by which new plant "individuals" arise or are obtained without production of seeds or spores. In a sense, this process is not one of "reproduction" but one of ... expansion of biomass of the individual. When an individual organism increases in size via cell multiplication and remains intact, the process is called "vegetative growth". However, in vegetative reproduction, the new plants that result are new individuals in almost every respect except genetic.
Reply:Many plants that produce bulbs also produce seed. Otherwise they would not produce flowers. A true bulb will copy itself by starting what is called a scale at the base of the original bulb. As the top of the plant dies down it is still storing energy for next year. It will store the energy in the original bulb and now in the scale as it grows into another bulb just like the first.
Reply:bulbs have cluster of tiny nodules/bulbs at the roots like lillies, omions
Reply:vegetative propogation - basically asexual reproduction in plants
