What are some good flowers or flowering bushes that last for longer than a couple of weeks?

I live in Ohio.

My tulips and daffodils died after a couple of weeks. The little bush with pink flowers became flowerless after a couple of weeks... last year my irises didn't last long. Another little bush I planted a couple years ago still hasn't flowered.

I just planted some new flowers, but they are tiny and aren't doing much for the yard. I just added them to cover the baldness from all the tulips dying. Any help would be appreciated.

Preferably choices that are not too expensive.

Thanks

:)

There are shrubs, perennials and annuals.

Shrubs remain all the time. Some keep their leaves and others do not. 'Little Princess' Spirea is a shrub that has a long period of bloom. If you dead head the flowers, it will

repeat its flowering. I think you will be happy with this plant. Here are some pictures:

Perennials basically die in the winter and get new growth the following year. You just have to remove the dead foliage in either the Fall or Spring. There are some perennials that bloom almost all season long. Nepeta' Walkers Low' blooms almost continually with pale purple soft flowers on the stems.

Some images are here:

Stella D'Oro Daylily will bloom with yellow showy flowers. These will die, and before you know it it will bloom again. It will repeat this pattern throughout the season:

Coneflowers, another perennial, blooms in the summer until Fall.

I love Coneflowers:

Annuals must be planted every year as they die in the Fall, but they will bloom continuously all season. There are many types of annuals. Here are impatiens:

You can mix these and have a variety of shrubs, perennials and annuals. Use the above plants and you will have color all season with an interesting mix.
Reply:Lilac bushes come in Lavendar and white and some pink.. How about some rose bushes. Also spirulas. They weep down branches with white flowers all over the stem. Honeysuckle is nice. Jasmine. Bouginvella are very colorful!
Reply:tulips and daffodils have a short blooming period and are bulbs that will bloom for about a month or two each year. The little bush with pink flowers will bloom longer if you dead head which means trim the dead flowers off. If you trim the dead flowers the plant will flower again and get larger. African Daisy is pretty inexpensive and will flower again and again if you dead head. Geraniums are less maintenance but personally not my favorite. Petunias will flower all season and are simple and fast to dead head. Good luck.
Reply:Hydrangia bushes- I don't think I spelled that right. It has to be the bush and not the plant. The bush is a perennial. It may take a few years to flower, but once it does it flowers all summer long. (I'm in the midwest)
Reply:Well Hollyhocks are not a bush but they look bushlike! They are beautiful and flower all summer long! If you also plant a lot of Salvia's, they are a small shrub and are beautiful with so many different varieties and colors. They also bloom all summer long! Perovski (russian sage) is fairly easy to find and is commong and blooms beautifully, also try Gaura, Agastache, Red hot pokers form a beautiful bush like look and bloom all summer.

I recommend purchasing a sunset gardening book and visiting www.highcountrygardens.com they have a great selection and are geared towards educating people too! They are all about waterwise gardening which is also GREAT for the environment!
Reply:Minature magnolia bushes very fragrant to also the name of the tulip is Cleopatra I think they last a while hibiscus also tend to bear for a while but a miniature magnolia bush can have flowers allmost all year long.Oleander can get quite large and bear many flowers but thye can be cut back to desired height each year.

Reply:I had the same problem, they never lasted long. Roses are the best. They are hardy and bloom most of the year. Also geraninums, and impatients.
